Tagua Nut aka "Vegetable Ivory" comes from the Tagua Tree (Ivory Palm) which is found throughout the lowland rain-forests of Ecuador Peru, Columbia and Panama. Only once the fruit has naturally ripened and fallen from the trees can the cluster of nuts inside be collected to be dried for crafting.
This special nut has been used since the 19th century to make buttons, jewellery and carved objects and is a wonderful sustainable natural resource.
